The '93 model year was the first year Hummers were sold through a network of dealers (all '92s were sold direct by the factory). There were very few differences between the '92 and '93 models with many '93s actually having earlier production dates than some '92 Hummers. Production of '92 Hummers began in June 1992 and completed in December 1992. The 1993 Model year production began in August 1992, so for much of the year both 1992 and 1993 Hummers were produced at the same time. The badges ('93s were not considered "Limited Editions" ) changed and '93s will have most of the running changes made to the '92s. Most '93s were originally painted Tan. When Tan proved less popular than expected, many were repainted by the factory and shown to have a Tan "base coat". Luxury items such as power windows, power mirrors and cruise control were still not available as factory options in '93 but 126 were built with factory Power Door Locks for thr first time. 2 New Models were introduced 1993 as the Recruit Series. There was a 2-Passenger (VLC2) and an Open Top (VLCO) Recruit available. The Recruit was a stripped down model designed to have an attractive price. They had a basic interior and did not have CTIS, 2-piece wheels or other features. The 2-Passenger had an MSRP of $40,170 while the Open Top was $44,620 including freight. Most were painted "Recruit Blue" (Gloss Blue). The Recruits turned out to be a tough sale without CTIS etc. in spite of the low price.
